The match as scheduled was Daniel Bryan & Roman Reigns vs. King Corbin & Dolph Ziggler in the main event of Friday Night SmackDown.

But we wound up seeing many more faces than that.

The match had an unusual feel from the jump, as a surging Bryan was interrupted by flickering arena lights and the haunting sound of Bray Wyatt’s laugh. Bryan regained the form that was briefly halted earlier, but in the critical moments, Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt emerged, prompting Bryan to dive right through the ropes at his Royal Rumble opponent. Bryan’s efforts were unsuccessful though, as Wyatt applied the Mandible Claw and smashed Bryan through the barricade on the outside before reapplying the Mandible Claw.

Wyatt vanished just as quickly as he appeared, prompting Corbin & Ziggler to pounce on the solo Reigns. King Corbin & The Showoff tried to replicate their actions of a few weeks ago by attempting to handcuff The Big Dog and pour dog food on him, but their plan was thwarted by the returning Usos! Jimmy & Jey struck with a few vicious superkicks to dispatch Reigns and Corbin before helping their cousin to his feet, closing out an absolutely wild first Friday Night SmackDown of 2020.

Wrestlemania 35 Digitals

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – For a brief moment at WrestleMania 35, the MetLife Stadium became The Uso Penitentiary as Jimmy & Jey stood tall on The Grandest Stage of Them All, defeating The Bar, Ricochet & Aleister Black and Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev to retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

The action was fast and furious right from the get-go as Aleister Black and Jey Uso traded holds, but the frantic nature of the Fatal 4-Way Match soon came into play, as members from all four teams tagged into the fray in rapid-fire succession.

The NXT upstarts looked like they had the upper hand, as Ricochet dizzied Cesaro with a dazzling headscissors takeover, but an uppercut from The Swiss Superstar stopped The One and Only right in his tracks. The Bar went on a rampage from there, as Cesaro spun Ricochet in the Cesaro Swing for minutes, while Sheamus grabbed anyone within reach and pummeled them with the Beats of the Bodhrán.

Ricochet recovered from Cesaro’s stomach-churning ride, but he was soon caught in the clutches of Rusev, who overpowered the speedy Superstar. Soon, the bout devolved into utter chaos, as a stacked superplex-powerbomb combo from the top rope brought all eight men crashing to the mat in a heap.

The relentless pace continued from there, as superkicks, Kinshasas and Black Masses were delivered with extreme precision. After Sheamus clobbered Ricochet with a Brogue Kick, though, The Celtic Warrior was all alone with Jimmy & Jey. The Usos took Sheamus down with a pair of superkicks, then crushed him with a double splash from the top rope to retain their titles.

The Usos may have left The Show of Shows with their SmackDown Tag Team Titles, but it was clear to the WWE Universe that there will be plenty of tough challenges ahead for the champions.

After a long, nine-year journey, The Usos are headed to WrestleMania. Now, the challenge begins.

The SmackDown Tag Team Champions will be defending their titles against not one, but two tag teams just as hungry as Jimmy & Jey — The New Day, who traded victories with the twins over 2017’s already-legendary series between the tandems, and The Bludgeon Brothers, who have never competed at WrestleMania as a tag team but whose rebirth has already made them a force to be reckoned with on Team Blue.

The championship match first came about when The New Day won the right to once again challenge The Usos for the titles at WWE Fastlane. As that rivalry began to regain steam, Harper & Rowan waited in the wings until they finally struck during the edge-of-your-seat title bout, decimating both teams and sending Xavier Woods to the hospital. The Bludgeon Brothers continued their onslaught the next week, defeating the only medically cleared members of The Usos and New Day — Jimmy Uso and Big E — and using brute strength to position themselves for a title match.

Given that The Usos and The New Day have a grudge to settle against the behemoths (and each other), it’s now a matter every team for themselves, and this one may not come down to who hits what move so much as who is physically left standing when the dust finally settles.

Tune in to WrestleMania to see who leaves as SmackDown Tag Team Champions, streaming live Sunday, April 8, on the award-winning WWE Network at a special start time of 7 ET/5 PT!

Introduction: The Usos and The New Day have had some of the most explosive matches in tag team history. These teams have gone through Hell and back to remain the top tag team. Can The Usos hold on to the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships, or will The New Day catch up with The Usos and become Five time champs? One team has never won at WrestleMania. The other has never made a WrestleMania. And a third team isn’t about to be left behind on The Road to WrestleMania so easily.

The long-awaited, rivalry-renewing clash between The Usos and The New Day ended in indecisive fashion when The Bludgeon Brothers came calling and put a brutal end to what had been shaping up to be among the most unpredictable of the instant classics between ya boys and the Day One twins.

Match Summary: WWE Smackdown Tag Team champions The Usos vs. The New Day.

Xavier Woods started off with Jey Uso. He got drilled hard early and The Usos cornered him and tagged in and out, stomping him hard. Corey Graves referenced the Samoan SWAT Team. I popped for that. Xavier finally tagged out to Kofi Kingston, who nailed a lot of hot offensive maneuvers before nailing the Boom Drop.

Lots of really good back and forth action. Kingston was worked over but made the tag to Xavier. Xavier fired back with roaring forearms. Kingston added a kick, setting up Jimmy Uso for a Woods superkick. Kofi tagged in and went to the top. Xavier nailed a superkick and Kofi nailed a superfly splash for a two count.

New Day were sent to the outside, setting up a double dive from the Usos onto all three members of New Day.

The Bludgeon Brothers’ music hit, and they came down to the ring. They attacked everyone on the floor, so the referee rang the bell. I get they are obviously setting up Wrestlemania but given the level of work those involved could pull out in the ring, this was disappointing to see.

The Brothers pulled Woods off the apron and suplexed him down to the floor. They ran the Usos into each other, then slammed them on the floor. Harper slammed Harper atop of one of the Usos and then splashed the champions.

They then powerbombed Woods on the bottom half of the ring steps.

Everyone was left destroyed by the Bludgeon Brothers. As a vehicle to get them over, it was very effective. One would assume a three-way bout at Wrestlemania.

They promoted the Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar storyline leading into Wrestlemania.

AJ Styles was being interviewed by Renee Young when Shinsuke Nakamura showed up. Nakamura told him he hoped that AJ won tonight so he could beat AJ. An intense AJ cut him off and warned him that at Wrestlemania, Nakamura was who was going to get beat.

They stretchered out all of the Bludgeon Brothers’ victims.

The Usos make their way to the ring. Jimmy says there they go again, spreading the power of positivity through pancakes. They have gone head to head and gone to war and there was one tag team standing tall, with the titles. Jey says they haven’t looked back since. Jey says they used to be just like the New Day. Singing around and dancing looking like a box of Skittles. That didn’t take them to the next level. Jimmy says they have been grinding for the last nine years. They have tried to prove to everyone that they belong on Wrestlemania. Jey says year after year, they have been getting passed over. Nine years in the game and zero Wrestlemanias.

They say that this year is their time. Jey says it is the goal line at Fastlane and they will run through the New Day into the end zone. Jimmy says the New Day will be on the sidelines. Jey says they have adapted and they are the future.

Big E says they have been at the top where they belong for the last five years. They hosted Wrestlemania when you were in the back eating catering. They didn’t get here because of their daddies. They didn’t stand on the sidelines because they rushed the field and took what was theirs. They will take the titles at Fastlane and the will become Five Time WWE Tag Team Champions.

While they stand face to face in the ring, the Bludgeon Brothers’ music plays and they appear on the stage. They make their way to the ring.

All five men leave the ring.

In the fourth week of the groundbreaking WWE Mixed Match Challenge, exclusively on Facebook Watch, the dynamic husband/wife combination of Jimmy Uso & Naomi used outstanding spouse chemistry to reign supreme over Goldust & Mandy Rose.

Once again, the WWE Universe was given the opportunity to tag into the action, as a Facebook exclusive fan poll determined whether the Special Guest Referee for the highly-anticipated contest would be Raw General Manager Kurt Angle or SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan. And did fans choose Bryan? … “Yes!”

Goldust started off the match playing a series of very successful mind games on Jimmy Uso, but when the bout gave way to an impromptu contest of who had the best chemistry with their partner, Goldust turned his back on Jimmy to kiss Mandy Rose, and Jimmy attempted a quick pin. Was Bryan amused? … “No!”

When the ladies took over, however, business picked up with a fierce back-and-forth battle until the Absolution Superstar took charge. When Mandy slapped Jimmy, though, Naomi made her pay for it.

As the action rolled on, both teams showed impressive teamwork, including a double “marital” enziguiri from Jimmy and Naomi. Moments later, Goldust and Mandy responded taking their opponents down with a double powerslam.

Then, in the height of the intense showdown, Naomi leaped over the top rope and over Goldust to level Mandy and take her completely out of the contest. This opened the door for The Glowing Superstar to hit the Rear View on The Bizarre One before Jimmy finished him off with an earth-shattering Uso Splash off the top rope for the impressive victory.

The Usos are in the back and they say that they have the tag team division on lock. Everyone needs to listen to what they have to say.

Jimmy and Jey Uso make their way to the ring.

Jimmy says that this is the City of Brotherly Love so show some love to your tag team champions. Jey says they told you all they will get silly up in Philly. Sunday they beat Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin. Jimmy reminds everyone it was 2-0. Jey says they have been tearing through the tag division since they arrived. They mention American Alpha, American Alpha 2, the Hype Bros, Breezango, New Day, Sheamus and Cesaro and how they are all locked down. They have been doing that since Day One. They say it is not about selling merchandise, it is about a lifestyle. Jey says it represents the struggle. The struggle to pay bills, go to work, and fighting through the struggles.

Jimmy says they are different from every tag team because his struggles are Jey’s struggles. Jimmy says it does not matter where you come from. Jey says they are not saying they are the best tag team, but Jimmy says they are the best tag team.

They welcome everyone to the Uso Penitentiary.

The lights go down and the Bludgeon Brothers make their way to the ring and walk past the Usos.

The Usos like many other superstars had some of their greatest moments on Raw. Far beyond the face paint and shorts, The Usos became one of the most successful Tag teams in WWE history and it all started on Raw.

The Usos went on to be drafted to SmackDown and soon after became champions. Tonight on Raw 25, The Usos are seen playing poker with the APA, Jeff Hardy, MVP and more. Once playtime is over, they were to stand gaurd outside of the ring as Lesnar, Kane & Braun Strowman went face to face. That didn’t go as planned as a fight broke out between the three behemoths and The Usos along with the others quickly got out of the ring.
